Dating in College: Positives and Negatives

pros and cons of dating in college

Despite the fact that at the moment I am not dating, having had relationships in college, I’ve learned some advantages and disadvantages of dating in such educational institution.

Apparently, dating concerns mostly individual tastes and personal situations of life, so people have to find out what is the most appropriate for them.

One of the main points of having relationships is to have somebody who is really fascinated with your personality and wants to know more about you, but this is where many problems appear. Frankly speaking, you can simply weigh these problems by looking at the pros and cons of having relationships being a student.

Positives

It’s common knowledge that being alone is a catastrophe for many students, especially when they only begin their studying at the university. As you’ve already understood, if you find a significant other who has the preferences that coincide with yours, it will undoubtedly help you in tricky situations when there is nobody who can support you.

One more advantage is that those who have a partner always can share their joy with each other. Even if your comrades don’t have time for you, as an alternative, you will have an opportunity to go out with your beloved one. Moreover, deciding where to go on the weekend, it won’t be so hard to get prepared as you don’t have anyone apart from your boyfriend or girlfriend to impress.

In particular situations, having relationships with someone is equal to having a free tutor who, in fact, might be good at some subjects that are problematic for you. As a matter of fact, your significant other can explain you everything sitting with you in your bedroom much better than the old angry woman.

Negatives

On the one hand, having a person who always shares tears and joy with you is amazing. On the other hand, it can be boring and annoying as well. In fact, some of my acquaintances really think that they are obliged to devote all their free time to the significant other.

Furthermore, dating someone makes it harder to concentrate on other significant things in your life. To be frank, last semester I made a marked improvement in my studying. I am absolutely sure that this happened only because I didn’t have anybody who could distract me and was devoid of anxieties that dating creates.

Another disadvantage appears after dating somebody. Not all people take everything with a pinch of salt, and you might be one of them. Successful relationships are very rare, and owing to the fact that you will see your ex on campus very often, it might break your heart…

Dating might also be called a job for a student. To tell you the truth, if you do this job in a good way, it will change your life in the most positive way. All in all, it depends on every individual. It’s up to you, whether you want to spend your whole life near the sweetheart or maybe you prefer solitude and isolation.
